Why Slowing Down to Create is Something to Strive For

A New Adventure: Learning the Art of Sourdough | Sourdough & Photography
Recently, I’ve taken up a new passion project: sourdough bread. Not just baking it—but really learning the process: cultivating a starter, letting the dough rest, and kneading with intention. We even started milling our flour at home, and the difference is incredible. The flavor is richer, the crust heartier, and there’s a certain pride in knowing exactly what went into each loaf.
It’s not fast. It’s not easy. But that’s what makes it meaningful.
Photography Isn’t Just Clicking a Button
In a world that moves quickly, it’s easy to think that photography is just one more thing to check off the list. But like sourdough, it’s not about speed but intention and presence.
Before the lens, wait for authentic photography—an art form that stirs emotion and lives on your walls for years. It takes time to find the light, connect with the people in front of the lens, and wait for just the right moment. It’s about crafting something lasting, something heartfelt.
Homemade Tastes—and Feels—Better
There’s something profoundly fulfilling about creating something from scratch. Whether it’s a rustic loaf of bread or a timeless family portrait, the value is in the making. When you bake it at home, it just tastes better. When you capture moments with care, they feel more genuine.
Both photography and sourdough share this truth: the best things take time. They’re not one-size-fits-all. They’re personal, textured, and rooted in real life.
Creating More Than Just Images—Creating Legacy
What I do as a photographer is more than just documenting a moment. It’s about capturing emotions, preserving connections, and giving you something you can hold onto when the kids are older when life moves on, and when the seasons change.
Just like that warm loaf pulled from the oven, a photograph created with care becomes a centerpiece in your home—a reminder of what matters most.
Let’s Make Something Meaningful Together
Whether I’m kneading dough or clicking the shutter, I’m drawn to the same thing: creating something worth slowing down for. If you value connection, authenticity, and the little things that make life beautiful—we’ll get along just fine.
Let’s take the time to create art that reflects your story and moments that last far longer than the season they were taken in.
