As a Northern Michigan family photographer, I believe in preserving the true beauty of the moments I capture, which is why my editing style is minimal and natural. My goal is to enhance the images to reflect their authentic charm, not to transform or drastically alter them. Here's a little more insight into my editing process and why I take the approach I do:

I use Lightroom and Photoshop to enhance the images, but I do so in a way that maintains the integrity of the original shot. My edits focus on bringing out the best of what was already there—adjusting light, color, and exposure to ensure the image is bright, vibrant, and true to life. I believe the beauty of a moment lies in its authenticity, and I want the photos to reflect the natural beauty of your family and the scene as it happened.

Regarding editing, I don’t believe in heavy modifications or adding artificial elements. I won’t use extreme filters, airbrush skin, or change the natural features of my subjects. You will still look like you—just enhanced in the most natural way possible.

Enhancement, Not Alteration

I can’t make you look skinnier or younger or remove things that weren’t part of the scene. My job isn’t to create a false version of you—it’s to capture the real, unposed moments that tell your family's story. It’s important to me that you feel confident and beautiful in your own skin, and that’s what I want the photographs to reflect. I also avoid any editing techniques that would make me cross ethical or legal boundaries. Photo editing laws are in place to ensure that photographers don’t engage in deceptive or illegal practices—things like altering someone’s appearance in a way that could cause harm or misrepresentation.

A true photographer doesn’t use AI or heavy editing to hide flaws in an image. Instead, they rely on their skill in composition, lighting, and timing to capture the perfect moment. The art of photography isn’t about making a scene look unreal—it’s about capturing the truth and beauty of the moment as it is.

While it's easy to get caught up in the idea that photos need to be "perfect" or idealized, I prefer to embrace the imperfections and rawness that make real life beautiful.
