Simple, fun, and just a little spooky — from Kelseycharmayne Photography

There’s something extra magical about Halloween with kids — the costumes, the giggles, the glowing pumpkins. Whether you’re planning a whole party or just looking for a cozy October activity together, these spooky recipes are perfect for little hands (and big imaginations).

Here are a few of my favorite kid-friendly Halloween treats that are fun to make and even more fun to eat.

Halloween recipes

👻 1. Mummy Hot Dogs

This is an all-time favorite. Wrap crescent roll dough around hot dogs like little mummy bandages, bake until golden, and add two tiny mustard or ketchup dots for eyes.

🧠 Tip: Serve with “bloody” ketchup for dipping—it’s spooky and silly all at once.

🕷️ 2. Spider Crackers

Sandwich peanut butter or cream cheese between two round crackers. Add four pretzel sticks for legs (two on each side) and use a dab of frosting or a mini chocolate chip for eyes.

🧠 Nut-free option: Use sunflower seed butter or hummus.

🎃 3. Pumpkin Patch Dirt Cups

Layer chocolate pudding, crushed Oreos, and gummy worms in a cup. Top it with a candy pumpkin or two for a mini edible pumpkin patch.

🧠 Make it a craft: Let kids build their own cups with a topping station!

🧁 4. Monster Cupcakes

Bake any cupcakes you like (box mix is perfect!), then go wild with neon frosting, candy eyes, licorice “tongues,” and sprinkles. Each one turns out a little different — just like real monsters!

🧠 Idea: Use a Ziploc bag with the tip snipped to let kids decorate their cupcakes without the mess of piping bags.

💀 5. Skeleton Veggie Platter

Use carrots, celery, cucumbers, and bell peppers to arrange a skeleton shape on a large tray. A small ranch dressing or hummus bowl makes a great “skull” or dipping center.

🧠 Fun challenge: See if the kids can name each bone as you build it!

🍬 6. Witch Hat Cookies

Press a chocolate kiss onto the center of a fudge stripe cookie using a little orange frosting as glue. The cookie becomes the brim, and the kiss becomes the top of the witch’s hat.

🧠 Let the kids decorate: Add mini sprinkles or piping gel for extra flair.

🎉 Halloween Magic Made Simple

At Kelseycharmayne Photography, I celebrate childhood's simple joys — like getting messy in the kitchen and laughing together over a plate of monster cupcakes. These are the moments that matter and deserve to be remembered.

If you'd love to document your family's fall traditions (costumes, pumpkin carving, or your next cookie-making day), I’d be honored to help you preserve those memories.
